Things That Suck (as of 9/05/07 1/4/08)
My heart got broken by the only man I have ever loved(While this still sucks, it sucks less. In fact, it is in the process of being replaced by the inscrutability of men in general, since I’ve made the transition to thinking about new, different men. Apparently, I have not learned my lesson.)
- The recent loss of the middle ground and its cousin the gray area (Yep, still sucks.)
- Language death (Again, still sucks.)
The math section of the GRE
(It may still suck, but I know longer have to care. Replacement sucky thing: waiting for a roomful of complete strangers to accept or reject you, thereby altering the direction of your life.)- The fascination with bimbos and himbos
- The alarmingly speedy accrual of my student loans (Sucking at 6%)
And, just so you know I’m not totally negative…
Things That Kick Ass
- The fact that my mom is my best friend
- The films of Billy Wilder

- Joe Morello’s drum solo on “Take Five”

- Being in the darkroom, making prints

- Franz Ferdinand (the band, not the archduke)

- Elvis Costello

- Earning an A (in fact, earning as many of them as possible – it’s like nerd crack to me)
- The Umbrellas of Cherbourg (aka) Les Parapluies de Cherbourg

- Going to art museums
- Spending a lazy afternoon with a good book
- Fresh laundry (not doing it, but it being done)
- The fact that I never have to take the math section of the GRE again! (And that I scored above the 50th percentile.)
- Cheese (with a preference toward Wisconsin and French)

I hadn’t given the subject any prior thought, but using the term, “nerd crack” in a sentence (okay, not in the formally constructed sentence) earns my immediate respect.

I read your lists with interest, and intend to explore the Umbrellas of Cherbourg as soon as I may.
I run with you on item number one in the Suck list, but have opted to go on strike for a while instead of facing the inscrutability problem. My hope is that by withdrawing completely from romantic pursuits of any kind I might come to a better understanding of my own desire. Yes, that’s right, I don’t fancy anyone else yet.
I have a suggestion for your Kick Ass list though..It’s a Japanese film called Tampopo.
